Getting Here
Sodwana Bay is located in Northern KwaZulu-Natal on South Africa's east coast.
Getting Here from Johannesburg
From Johannesburg you will take the N17 East which goes past Springs and then goes through Bethal until you reach Ermelo. From Ermelo the N17 becomes the N2 South which goes through the towns of Piet Retief and Pongola before you get to the Hluhluwe turn off.
The distance between Johannesburg and Sodwana Bay is approximately 700km's in total and usually takes about 8 hours at a leisurely pace.
For a more scenic route you can go through Swaziland, just remember your passports.
Getting Here from Durban
From Durban you will get on the N2 north which goes past Ballito, Mtunzini and Richards Bay before reaching the Hluhluwe turn off.
The distance between Durban and Sodwana Bay is about 400km's and takes about 5 hours.
For a more Scenic route you can detour through any of the many game reserves that make up a large portion of northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Getting Here from Hluhluwe
From the turn off on the N2 it is about 5km to Hluhluwe. If you drive straight through the town, you will drive straight through 3 traffic circles and turn left at the 4th one. After about a kilometer there is a turn off to the right on the R22 to Sodwana Bay which crosses over a set of railway tracks.
Follow the R22 for about 80km's and you will reach the town of Mbazwana.
From Mbazwana you will turn right off the R22 at the Engen Garage and then turn right again at the 4 way stop. After the 4 way stop you will go straight through a traffic circle and on to the Sodwana Bay Gate which is about 10km from Mbazwana.
The distance is about 90km's which takes about an hour.

PLEASE Remember that Sodwana Bay is in a rural area surrounded by game reserves so there are many animals that are often on the road.
Cows often cross the roads so please be cautious, especially at night when the darker ones blend into the darkness.
