  • He or she works with the spirits of their forefather's, and they are called by their ancestors in dreams and voices.
  • Once the person has been called, they must go for training to become a real sangoma.
  • The traditional Sangoma training takes one to two years and one or more cows and goats are required as payment for the training.
  • The Sangoma's culturally respect and remember their ancestors (Amadlozi) but they don't worship them.
  • khumbula-1They also perform Zulu-Sangoma traditional dancing.
  • They were of utmost importance from the 19th century to the earliest kings of the Zulu nation.
