Hluhluwe

Hluhluwe is a small town in northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

It is situated between iSimangaliso Wetland Park and Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve on the banks of the Hluhluwe River.

The Zulu name refers to the thorny climbers that were found growning in profusion along the river.

Cattle, timber, sugarcane and pineapples are farmed in the area. Up to 90% of South African pineapples, known as queen pineapples are produced in this area.

The town has banks, petrol stations and supermarkets and is surrounded by National parks and smaller privately owned game reserves, making it a good place to explore from.

Also close by is bushlands which has a traditional zulu cultural village - Dumizulu. Here you can experience the age old tribal rhythms and customs that are the fabric of traditional life. The community that live here, live as they woulld have six hundred years ago, living in beehive huts with no electricity.
